Pre-Academic Haredi Program

The Hebrew University opened its Haredi pre-academic preparatory program (mechina) in November 2012. Since Haredi men do not acquire a Bagrut (certificate necessary to be admitted to higher education) and have not learnt core curricular subjects such as English and Math, the preparatory program teaches these disciplines as well as other academic oriented subjects in order to prepare them for the university. Of 192 Haredi students who have competed the Haredi Campus mechina, nearly half (87) have been accepted for undergraduate study at the Hebrew University. In addition to the Haredi program, the regular Hebrew University ‘Saltiel Mechina’ is open to graduates of the Haredi education system who prefer studying in a non gender segregated framework. Students in both pre-academic preparatory programs receive a basket of academic and social support services.
